WE LOVE OUR PETS PROGRAM
Piedmont Agency on Aging has been awarded $5000 over the last three years to implement a pet food project. Banfield Charitable Trust provided the funding to benefit elderly pet owners served by Meals on Wheels. This program provides pet food and veterinary care for homebound seniors who enjoy the companionship of a pet, but may have difficulty covering the cost of immunizations, food, flea medications and other essentials associated with pet ownership. Since 2008, 14 seniors and over 20 pets have been assisted through this grant. Piedmont Agency on Aging also participates in the annual "Season of Suppers," which offers the community an opportunity to donate pet food specifically for distribution to pet owners struggling to feed their hungry pets in communities across the nation. Since it's inception in 2006, the "Season of Suppers" campaign has collected more than 50 tons of food for distribution.
